Abstract
Most implementations of the Fast Volume Reconstruction (FaVoR) algorithm are designed for 16-ring PET scanners. With the rapid advent of large-aperture scanners (24 rings or more), it is necessary to explore the feasibility of an implementation of FaVoR when very large amounts of data have to be treated. A practical, distributed transputer-based solution is proposed for 24- and 32-ring scanners, with performances comparable to those of present-day 16-ring scanner systems. The performance attainable with the new T9000 transputer generation is discussed
