Abstract :
The authors have used Monte Carlo simulation methods to design and evaluate a small animal positron tomograph of inner diameter 34.37 cm, field of view diameter of 20 cm, and axial field of view of 6 cm. The tomograph consists of 16 BGO blocks, each of which is partially segmented to 18×16 crystals of dimension 5.35 mm×3.30 mm×30 mm and is read out by a position sensitive photomultiplier. The rate performance as well as the spatial resolution have been studied and compared with other tomographs
