Abstract
The present work investigates the breakdown characteristics of high voltage XLPE cable by the electrical trees under the AC and composite voltages formed by AC and DC voltage. The structure of the electrical trees resembles a Tree-like-Tree or a Bush type of tree structure. The importance of the Weibull parameters for the present study was emphasized. The failure zone of the XLPE cables was characterised by certain physico-chemical analysis. The mechanical characteristics of the aged materials were also studied.
