Abstract
As a potential solution to the problem of illegal duplication and piracy, watermarking techniques have been explored extensively in recent years. Most watermarking schemes explored today are for the notification of copyright ownership. But in the protection of copy rights, the ability of user tracing is a more practical approach. In this paper, a compound watermarking scheme of an MD5 message digest and a company logo is suggested to serve as user fingerprint and ownership notification in the protection of image copyright. The MD5 message digest is embedded in the DC components of the covert image, while the company logo planted in the medium frequency area in an adaptive way. Experiments showed both the watermarks can survive well under JPEG compressions and other image processing procedures and they give a good DRM tool.
