Abstract :
Bamboo-like carbon nanotubes were synthesized successfully from V-type pyrolysis flame. Carbon monoxide was employed as carbon source and pentacarbonyl iron was served as catalyst. The carbon nanotubes attached on the sampling probe were characterized by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. The results show that the size of catalyst particle is approximate linear relationship to the diameter of bamboo-like carbon nanotube. In addition, the thinner carbon nanotubes have relatively more regular compartment layers, while the thicker have a relatively irregular bamboo-like structure. Synthesis of bamboo-like carbon nanotubes from V-type pyrolysis flame is a kind of novel and simple technique. It may have potential for utilization in mass production.
