Abstract
This paper presents a novel power system transmission line fault location algorithm that is applicable for the scenarios where transmission line parameters are not available. A set of equations involving the unknown fault location are formulated based on pre-fault and fault data, solution to which leads to the fault location. A method is also described for determining the positive sequence line parameters by utilizing pre-fault data, which are then harnessed to estimate fault location together with the fault data.
