Abstract
The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District has operated a fleet of electric buses since 1991. Purpose built and converted diesel buses carry passengers from downtown Santa Barbara to its waterfront. Most buses have used flooded traction batteries as a power source. New installation of VRLA batteries with battery monitoring systems (BMS) are the subject of this presentation. The author describes the battery monitoring system, state of charge modeling, alarm conditions, and data storage
