Abstract :
HAPS (High Altitude Platform Stations) is an airship equipping radio transponders which stays in the stratosphere (an altitude of about 20 km). It is used for purposes such as communication, broadcast, and Earth observation. This paper proposes a reflective communication method on the airship of HAPS. In order to communicate, reflective materials must be pasted on the outside of HAPS, or put into HAPS. The HAPS itself is considered to be a spheroid reflector. The reflector in HAPS is a sphere and trihedral corner reflector. As the method of evaluation, when the frequency is set to 10 GHz, we compare EME with HAPS in terms of path loss and compare the received power characteristic over change of reflection angle according to the difference in the form of reflectors. Consequently, we show that the reflective communication system in HAPS is possible using the trihedral corner reflector as reflector.
