Abstract :
The existing literatures on co-channel heterogeneous networks treat the cross-tier interference simply as noise. In this paper, we propose an adaptive transceiver design for open-access picocells, where according to the interference level the users in picocells can either treat the Macro-BS signals as noise, which is like conventional transceiver design; or perform interference cancellation by demodulating and subtracting the Macro-BS signals. Based on this adaptive picocell transceiver design, we derive the average system throughput analytically. We show that the proposed adaptive transceiver design can significantly improve the average system throughput compared with the conventional transceiver design. The performance enhancement is due to better cell splitting gain as the picocells can be deployed in medium-to-close coverage region of Macro-BS which is prohibited with conventional transceiver design.
