Abstract :
Carrier Aggregation (CA) is one of the important technologies to further improve the capacity of Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A). When CA is conducted, a User Equipment (UE) will firstly select a Primary Serving Cell (PCell) for mobility support and then add Secondary Serving Cells (SCell) for higher experienced data rate. When and how to add/remove SCell is a very important issue, especially in heterogeneous network where the radio condition of different Component Carriers (CC) are totally different. In this paper, we investigate the performance of SCell addition/removal with absolute and relative policies, and propose a new SCell selection method to provide higher priority with bias to low power node, e.g., Remote Radio Head (RRH). Moreover, we evaluate the appropriate bias according to the traffic load or number of users. System level simulation shows that the proposed method can provide higher user throughput by offloading more SCell users to RRH cells.
