Abstract :
Silicone liquids exhibit good flame-retardant characteristics, but unfortunately also exhibit poor gas absorbing capacity under high electrical stress, thus rendering them unsuitable for cable application. This drawback has been overcome by the addition of 5-10% by volume of alkylbenzene which is a strong gas absorber. The resultant liquid compositions showed improved gas absorption characteristics without adversely affecting the flame-retardant properties of the base silicone liquids. Comparative studies on model cables have demonstrated that a 93%-silicone-20CS/7%-alkylbenzene-C18 liquid composition outperformed the conventional alkylbenzene liquid in terms of dissipation factor characteristics and long-term aging performance.<>
