Abstract
This paper describes the development, operation, and validation of an automated wayside detector that monitors curving performance of individual rail vehicles. The detector can alert management to derailment conditions and identify cars requiring remedial maintenance. The curving performance data can also be placed in a maintenance database for long term maintenance planning and component life cycle costing
