Abstract
This paper proposes an adaptive variable threshold vertical handoff algorithm based on the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The received signal strength (RSS) is the dominant factor considered when handoff occurs. The algorithm makes handoff decision after analyzing the signal strength fluctuation caused by slow fading through FFT. Simulation shows that the algorithm reduces the number of handoff by 35%, and makes nodes full use of WLAN to communication compared with traditional algorithms.
