Abstract :
This paper presents an all-digital frequency generating scheme suitable for Software-Defined-Radios (SDR). It performs feed-forward frequency estimation, followed by feed-back phase-locked loop tracking. The proposed DPLL scheme is a feature rich novel technique which will enable many new applications. The paper describes the fundamental equations of the technique, depicts its limitations, and proposes a method to control. A companion paper will treat performance and implementation.
