Abstract :
This paper proposes the analysis and design of lossless passive soft-switching power converters from a complete engineering viewpoint. Analysis is described for a set of circuit cells used to synthesize whole families of soft-switching power converters. The design of the resulting soft-switching circuits is based on minimizing switching losses and still maintaining soft-switching over the desired operating range. A new simple loss model is derived and used to optimize the values of these resonant components for a particular design. General design procedures are given. As an example of the design procedure, a PFC boost power converter is designed and tested
