Abstract :
This paper will discuss a variety of approaches that can be followed in the modeling of optoelectronic devices. Two case studies will be presented, relating to devices that have recently attracted considerable interest, namely multi quantum well Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA) and superlattice Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL). In both devices, the details of microscopic transport are crucial in determining their performance.
