Abstract
Fiber optic thermometer using thermally excited luminescence from Eu doped SiO2 fiber is evaluated for highly sensitive thermo-sensor. In a modified sensor, tip of the fiber sensor is tapered to less than 500 mum diameter. Response time of tapered fiber sensor improved greatly as compared to that of conventional fiber sensor. Resolution is also improved using the tapered fiber sensor. Tapered fiber sensor is suggested to be a suitable sensor for high temperature measurement with fast response and fine resolution.
