Abstract :
Breakdown characteristics of insulation are necessary for insulation coordination studies. This paper presents a simple model based on integration methods for simulation of breakdown characteristics of suspension insulators. The proposed model is applied with ATP-EMTP to simulate volt-time characteristics of ANSI class 52-2 insulator string with 1-3 discs under standard lightning impulse voltages of both polarities. The obtained results show a good agreement with the experimental data.
