Abstract :
With the development of new threats, that are less predictable, more dynamically evolving and less visible, the potential benefits of space-based systems for homeland security are recognized by the European Union. Wide area coverage, unrestricted access, security and reliability of information, guaranteed service, operational capabilities and readiness are some of those potential benefits of space-based systems. Kopernikus/GMES, Galileo and SATCOM are the fundamental initiatives of the European Union with the cooperation of the European Space Agency for the security of Europe in terms of military and civilian crisis management. Considering the cooperation of existing and planned space-systems with these programs, the European Union have taken most of the required steps for the security of Europe.
