Abstract :
This paper describes how bandwidth virtualization can enable transmission of ultra-high bandwidth 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s services over existing optical transport networks independently of the underlying network infrastructure. Two real world examples are highlighted: transport of a 40 Gb/s service over an 8,477 km transoceanic network, and transmission of a 100 GbE service over 4,000 km on a terrestrial network carrying live customer traffic.
