Abstract
Oil refinery industries regularly stop the production of a part of the plant for maintenance job. The workers involved on this job may be subjected to risks related to lightning strikes. This article deals with risk analysis in maintenance job. A study of references about lightning protection systems is made. The IEC 62305-2 toll for risk calculation is present and a tolerable risk is defined. Risk of loss of human life is calculated in several situations and the necessity of implementation of measures to reduce the risk is analyzed. The particularities of the maintenance job are studied and the principles of protection are presented.
