Abstract
A polynomial-based method for processing binary images (both colored and monochrome) is developed. A hierarchical data structure in the form of a quadtree is presented to store and retrieve the binary images represented by polynomials in two variables. An algebraic operator is obtained to realize the contour of an image.<>
