Abstract :
Today, the Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitacion (INR) generates an average or around three millions digital medical images derived from magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine, computed tomography and computed radiology. The increasing production of images, demand the existence of a system of transfer, storage and visualization to ensure the integrity of the information, optimize image quality and allow the immediate availability of it. An alternative to solve this problem is the PACS (picture archiving and communication system) which are composed for the following functional modules: 1) transfer, 2) storage, 3) query and retrieve and 4) visualization. This work shows the development and implementation of the DICOM-INR visualization module based on RUP (rational unified process) and UML methodologies. This application is designed to meet with the particular needs of the INR, and improve free software viewer.
