Abstract
The author presents the main aspects of the frame theory and analyzes its shortcomings. It is shown that the frame representation scheme alone is not sufficient to represent most real-world knowledge. Thus, there is a need to combine the various representation schemes into a coherent and integrated hybrid representation facility. This integration of the knowledge representation schemes cannot result only from implementation-related investigations. More in-depth work in the manner of Shannon´s work in information theory is required if progress towards a unified theory of knowledge representation is to be achieved.<>
