Abstract :
In this paper we compute the channel capacity of M-ary pulse position modulation ultra-wideband (UWB) communications over multiple-access channels. Under certain assumptions, the multiple-access noise component at the receiver can be modeled as Gaussian. An expression for the signal-to-noise ratio is developed for UWB utilizing rectangular pulses. The information theoretic capacity of the UWB system is expressed as a function of number of users. Utilizing the expressions developed, other trade-offs can be determined between the system parameters and capacity.
