Abstract :
The issues of integration in a vision and image processing systems (VIPS) which has found an increasing number of applications in manufacturing are analyzed. It is pointed out that, to achieve fully integrated systems which are seamless and have a uniform occurrence of data and ways to process the data, it is essential that the semantics of components be identified and captured in advance. The semantics of a VIPS are identified in terms of data, processes, and knowledge. The system should have the features of handling large and heterogeneous knowledge bases, the ability to integrate knowledge and data, and a generic knowledge representation scheme. The basic system architecture to meet these features is discussed
