Abstract
Summary form only given. In this paper, a comprehensive simulation study is performed for evaluating the performance of the uplink of the wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) system operating in the time division duplex (TDD) mode. The performance is quantified in terms of the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the uplink carrier-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (CINR) and the throughput achieved by the users. A number of different practical scenarios are considered in this paper depending on the number of users per cell, the type of the antennas used at the base stations and the value of frequency reuse. Furthermore, we show how techniques like cell sectorization and multi-user detection (MUD) at the base stations can significantly improve the throughput in the system.
