  • Abstract
Electromagnetic waves (EMW) caused by electrostatic discharges (ESD) are known to be generated in the aircraft cabin, with the passenger cabin acting as a large microwave cavity. During our research, we attempted to developed a conductive fiber system which can absorb and shield against these types of ESD and EMW events. Our desire was to retrofit all of the objects in the cabin, such as the flooring, chairs, curtains and walls with an ESD safe material that would react as an (RF) absorber and provide shielding against transient ESD events.
