Abstract :
This paper reports on a new device based on very short pulsed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), generating plasmas over very long distances (~ m) at atmospheric pressure consisting of plasma bullets close to the type of those reported by Laroussi. These plasma balls are traveling at very high speed, between 106 and 108 cm/s, in flexible dielectric tube at the end of which there is generation of a plasma plume like zone (which shape and intensity is depending on the discharge repetition rate). Secondary mixture plasma can be produced close to a given surface by adding other gas fluxes in the main gas stream. The plasma bullets can be generated in gases at repetition rate varying in the range from single shot to multi-kilohertz. This allows one to vary the energy deposition on a treated surface over orders of magnitude while maintaining short treatment
