Abstract
This paper describes the assessment of steady-state voltage stability and real and reactive margins using advanced network analysis tools. These software tools can systematically identify voltage instability or collapse in a power system following disturbances or contingencies, and calculate corresponding real and reactive margins. The tools have been applied in the planning and operational studies of a Western US power system in accordance with its voltage stability criteria.
