Abstract :
As it can meet the requirements of speed, non-touch, high intensity and digital data collection in metric survey of historic buildings, 3D Laser Scanning has been accepted rapidly by architectural schools in many universities and institutions concerning architectural history and conservation of cultural heritage. However, due to the lack of detailed knowledge of the equipment and technique, following the equipment and the precision blindly has become a common phenomenon in this field. If there is any correction of the phenomenon mentioned, the subsequent theory research will be misled and messed up. Reviewing the basic principles of the 3D Laser scanning, this paper summarizes the practical technology process of the metric survey of historic buildings on the base of some experiments, meanwhile points out the problems and misunderstandings in the application of this technique.
