Abstract :
This paper aimed to observe effects on high concentration of benzene, toluene and xylene (10 mg m-3, 8.5 mg m-3, 2.7 mg m-3 for benzene, toluene and xylene, respectively) from 4 sets of air cleaners in a large environmental chamber. The results showed that the performance of 4# air cleaner was the most efficient in removing pollutants. It took 5 hours, 3 hours and 3 hours to decrease the concentrations of benzene, toluene and xylene respectively under the national standard limits. All tested air cleaners played significant roles in removing pollutants even when ventilating. Therefore, using both ventilation and air cleaner could shorten delay time of moving in a decorated house freshly. It suggests that a long time of performance testing of air cleaners should be included in the national standard to meet practical needs, and clean air delivery rate (CADR) should be indicated for the specific pollutant in a instruction of air cleaners.
