Abstract
In the paper, a structured finite ground plane to improve radiation pattern of individual and arrayed monopoles is investigated. Evenly spaced conducting circular rings surrounding the normal circular finite ground plane form the structure introduced here. Based on the method of moments, EM simulations are carried out for individual and arrayed monopoles in the presence of traditional continuous finite ground plane and the structured finite ground (RGP) plane. Investigations concern the effects of width and spacing of the rings of RGP on the radiation pattern. As a result of these investigations, conclusions arc drawn with regard to the optimal dimensions of RGP.
