Abstract :
A line interactive superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system with a current source converter designed for active current harmonic filtering is described. The system features an algorithm of current space vector modulation, which is suitable for implementing on microprocessors and digital signal processors (DSP). An active control method is proposed to damp oscillations with the LC filter. The performances of the system based on a 12-pulse IGBT current source converter were confirmed by simulations. It is shown that the system has good dynamic as well as static characteristics. Its response time is less than 5 milliseconds and the current after compensation is essentially sinusoidal with the total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 1%.
