Abstract
The authors plan to roll out a next generation platform for protection and control solutions, with the aim of mobilising the latest developments in information and communication technology, in order to deliver new opportunities to the user. The goal of the next generation platform is to fully satisfy the requirements of all users in terms of functionality and performance, while achieving the highest possible quality, and for this purpose the following key features are implemented: — Flexibility for implementation of additional functions, to ensure easy adaptation to future user requirements — New software management system based on functionality — Fully modularised hardware configuration — Introduction of a high performance Programmable Logic Controller function In addition to these key developments, a number of other important advances have been realised in the new platform, in particular in the areas of communication, user interface and upgraded protection functions. The key technical aspects of these developments are described in detail in this paper.
