Abstract :
Designing the power amplifier (PA) for digital cellular handsets poses many problems which are the same as are faced in other radio transmitting applications. This paper explores the generalised problems and examines in greater detail those particular to digital handsets. The normal design problems which require solving are: discrete versus module design, output power computation, linearity, designing for poor SWR, thermal management, and EMC
