  • Abstract
A pure culture of Chlorella vulgaris or Prococentrum lima, commonly found in the ship ballast water, was exposed to low-pressure (LP) UV lamps. Irradiated pure culture suspension was subsequently incubated for 10 days under white light fluorescent lamps. During incubation, cell density, absorbance and relative fluorescence intensity were analyzed. The results show that the growth of C.vulgaris and P.lima were both inhibited by LPUV irradiation, and the inhibition effect increased with LPUV dose. C.vulgaris and P.lima were inhibited for 10 days and 3 days, respectively, after LPUV irradiation of 40, 100 and 300 mJ/cm2.
