Abstract
We are improving the production control system of a material manufacturer. A manufacturing plant of the material manufacturer has already achieved sharp due date and inventory reductions by employing the concept of supply chain management (SCM). The increased load of order progress control tasks has become an issue at the same time. We are convinced that it is possible to lower the inventory level by 10 to 15%, reduce the order progress control task load by 30%, and raise the level of service to users by expanding the scope of SCM through intercompany information coordination and by strengthening the order progress control system against the variation risk that increases with decreasing inventory level. These improvements mark the first step for the construction of the SCM model aimed at by the company. Completion of the SCM model will call for expansion of the scope of utilization of Web-based intercompany information coordination and for reduction of the production planning cycle of the manufacturing plant of the material manufacturer.
