  • Abstract
Shandong province which is located in a warm temperate monsoon climate zone is rich in agricultural resource. However, Drought is the most serious natural disasters of it. There is an important period for the wheat harvest before the Mound Closure which could ensure the enough number of the wheat tillering. Within the wheat growing stages, Density of vegetation cover is a gradually changing from bare to high, so we select the Thermal Inertia Model as a suitable method for the wheat drought monitoring before mound closure. But the plant canopy would affect to the soil background, that would make the deviation in soil temperature and albedo. Through the research, we discover the Enhance Vegetable Index (EVI) is more sensitive to vegetation´ changing in lower vegetation covered land than others, so we try to guide EVI into Thermal Inertia Model as the vegetation impact factor to amend the conventional model. We use MODIS for data source, and select 1~5,7,31 and 32 bands which are more sensitive to soil moisture. Through the large number of ground experiments, we discover when EVI average value is less than 0.18, the average of model inversion precision is more than 80%. The Amendment Thermal Inertia Model has higher precision than conventional model. And then according to the different water needing with the different wheat growth stages, we advanced the new standards for the drought evaluation of wheat. During 2008~2009, we use the Amendment Thermal Inertia Model for business running to monitor the wheat drought. Within the system, we support the reasonable resource scheduling suggestions for government to combat drought, and make sure the high wheat production.
