Abstract :
This paper brings forward a whole new scheme of distinguishing transient faults from permanent faults based on the carrier channel of carrier protections of EHV transmission lines. By using the method of mode components, the propagation characteristic of carrier current has been examined in detail. Theoretical analysis and EMTP simulation tests show that the proposed scheme is correct and valid when applied in three-phase reclosure. It is of great significance that the new scheme solves the problem of reclosing on permanent faults when a three-phase recloser is used.
