Abstract :
This paper taking GIS as technology platform, quantitative analyzed the spatial evolving process of Hohhot since 1912 by using the historical maps and the TM remote sensing data. The results showed that spatial pattern of huhhot has taken significant changes, and the total areas increased nearly 49.25 times; During the 61 years from 1912 to 1973, the huhhot spatial patterns were evolved mainly with inward fill type. But during the 26 years from 1973 to 2009, were evolved mainly with the extension type. The connection degree of the huhhot is becoming better and better, and but the compact ratio of the huhhot has been very low, especially in recent years, along with the rapid urbanization process, the similar “square”-shaped profile were affected, becoming more and more narrow, which would lead to the decrease of compact ratio.
