Abstract :
Wireless ad hoc sensor networks are widely deployed due to their various applications. Some of these transmitter sensors comprising of cameras, scanners, etc., usually send halftoned images to the receiver in the communication link to reduce the amount of transmitted data and power consumption. In these wireless networks the transmitted data is usually turbo coded as turbo codes have been found to be well suited for low power applications and interference limited applications. In the communication link, the total power consumed depends not only on the transmitter power but also on the power consumed at the receiver. In turbo coded receivers, as the number of iterations increase, the receiver power consumption also increases. In this paper, we use the a priori knowledge of the dither matrix used in the generation of halftoned images, to reduce the number of iterations and hence obtain a reduction in the turbo decoder power consumption and also a lower latency at the receiver
