Abstract :
The finite-element time-domain method (FETD) has been developed in order to simulate the complex electromagnetic structures. In this paper, an analysis of the numerical stability and dispersion of this method are presented. It is found that the stability is strongly depended upon the the temporal step size, and the numerical dispersion is bounded by the ratio of the carrier wavelength to the spatial step size. And, in comparsion with the the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, the FETD is proven to be advantaeous in the problems of large scale objects.
