Abstract
A design of a log-periodic antenna to cover the Medium Frequency Aperture Array (MFAA) band for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is described and the simulated results are presented in this paper. In order to obtain a smaller footprint, which will allow specifying the transition between sparse and dense regimes in the array at high frequencies, a smaller version of the initial model has been developed and its results are also shown. The proposed concept is based on irregular sparse aperture arrays which can maximize the sensitivity across the band reducing at least four times the number of elements used by dense arrays.
