Abstract
A novel hybrid fast frequency hopping (FFH) and direct sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme for indoor wireless communications is proposed and analyzed. Bit error rate performance of this hybrid system is compared with that of a wide-band DS-CDMA system and a DS-CDMA system with frequency diversity transmission occupying the same bandwidth. The proposed scheme does not require fast frequency hopping synthesizers covering the radio frequency band, however, it does employ digital FFH modulation and maximum ratio combining diversity. Numerical results using practical system parameters show that the proposed scheme reduces the irreducible error floor by 75% compared to the wideband DS CDMA, and 25% compared to the DS-CDMA with frequency diversity transmission
