  • Abstract
The formation of solitons in photorefractive crystals with an applied DC electric field has been the object of intense investigation. The effects of self-focusing, self-defocusing and the spatial solitons occur when the photorefractive response of the crystal is due to the "quasilocal" drift mechanism of the photorefractive nonlinearity. The diffusion (gradient-type) nonlinearity is usually the reason of a distortion of the solitons. Two kinds of response occur in a crystal with an applied square-wave electric field. The aim of this work is to show that the relative contributions of the two components of the photorefractive response of the crystal could be changed by adjustment of the electric field magnitude and modulation depth of the light
