Abstract :
Accurate fault location of transmission lines is an important problem in power systems. The method using travelling wave is an effective solution. High sampling rate causes the problems of storage and communication. The wavelet based data compression method and its application in fault location is proposed to solve the problems. The principle of the method is explained first. Then the algorithm of wavelet based data compression is detailed. Through simulations and comparisons, some useful conclusions are deduced.
