Abstract :
Widespread serious interest in software defined radio (SDR) technology today stems almost totally from the fast growing mobile communications. One of the main problems in developing SDR systems is finding the best trade-off where to do different digital signal processing functionalities. In this paper, we propose one facet of the solution for this problem. In section 2, we present the GSM and IS-95 mobile communications standards as a case study, as SDR systems is required to be interoperable between existing and future systems, and we justify our choice of the adaptive equalizer and RAKE receiver parts for our study. In section 3, we show algorithms used in chosen parts, and we present main SDR implementation requirements, then we present a reconfigurable solution for GSM adaptive equalizer/IS-95 RAKE receiver flexible operation upon QoS demands from user, by partitioning processing tasks between digital signal processor (DSP) and field programmable gate array (FPGA)
