Abstract
This paper proposed a new improved fast floating 4-point discrete cosine transform (DCT) algorithm applied in image compression based on JPEG. This 1-D 4-point DCT algorithm employs only 1 multiplication without increasing the number of add operation. This new algorithm saves 50% multiplications of the fastest algorithm proposed in the past.
