In this paper, we evaluate the average number of transmissions and the throughput performance of ARQ and HARQ I over Nakagami fading channels. The analysis is carried using a block fading and a two-states Markov channel models. These results are used to study the effects of the Nakagami-m parameter and the Doppler frequency on the performance of ARQ and HARQ I
